【摘要】:Cyanidesareknowntobetoxictoman,butmoresotofishandotheraquaticlife.Thecomplexityofthechemistryofcyanideshasledtothecoexistenceofseveralcyanidespeciesintheenvironment.Thepresenceofcyanidesinindustrial,domestic,andsurfacewateriscauseforconcern.Severalregulationsandstandardsrequirecontinuousmonitoringofcyanidesindifferenttypesofwaterandwastes.Theautomatedtestmethodspresentedofferusefultoolsforsuchmonitoring.(SeealsoPracticeD4193.)1.1Thesetestmethodscoverthedeterminationofdifferentspeciesofcyanidesandthiocyanateinwaterandwastewater,namelyweakaciddissociablecyanide,totalcyanide,andthiocyanate().1.1.1TotalCyanideThistestmethoddeterminesalltheweakaciddissociablecyanidesandthestrongmetal-cyano-complexes,suchasferrocyanide[Fe(CN)6]4,ferricyanide[Fe(CN)6]3,hexacyanocolbaltate[Co(CN)6]3,andthoseofgoldandplatinum.1.1.2WeakAcidDissociableCyanideThistestmethodbasicallydeterminesfreecyanides,asCNandHCN,andweakmetal-cyano-complexessuchas[Cd(CN)4]2and[Mn(CN)6]3.Ironcomplexesarenotincluded.1.1.3Strongcyanidecomplexes,likethoseofiron,cobalt,etc.,canbedeterminedbydifference,thatis,cyanidecomplexes=totalcyanidesweakaciddissociablecyanides.1.1.4ThiocyanateThistestmethoddeterminesthethiocyanateasthedifferencebetweenanothermeasurementthatincludestotalcyanideplusthiocyanateandthevalueoftotalcyanide,thatis,thiocyanate=totalcyanideplusthiocyanatetotalcyanide.1.2Cyanatesandcyanogenhalidesarenotdetected.CyanogenchloridehydrolyzestocyanateatthepHofsamplepreservation(12).1.3Mostoftheorgano-cyano-complexesarenotmeasured,withtheexceptionoftheweakcyanohydrins.1.4Thesetestmethodsapplytodifferenttypesofwater,wastewater(rawsewage,sludge,andeffluent),sludge,someindustrialwaste,andsediments.Samplematrixesshouldbeevaluatedbytheuser.Thereportedprecisionandbias(seeSection)maynotapplytoallsamples.1.5ThevaluesstatedinSIunitsaretoberegardedasthestandard.Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.Forspecificprecautionarystatements,seeSection9.
